A petite size chart is a document showing the petite size body measurement corresponding to the dress size of a particular brand or country.
Why do you need a petite size chart?
The question is why you need a petite size chart in the first place. Well as a petite you are always conscious of fittings. Normal dress sizes are for people with longer legs, torso, and inseam. A major problem every petite shopper faces while online shopping is returning the delivered dress due to the wrong sizes. The issue is so rampant that it’s considered normal. Another issue is the refitting of the dresses bought.
These two issues often cost you time and money. To avoid you need to understand the combination of your body and different petite sizes of brands and countries.
The whole idea behind dressing a petite body type is elongating the body structure. Now through a petite size chart, you can easily get the exact size for your short torso or legs.
How to measure your petite body?
To read the petite size chart, you need to have your body measurements first. If possible try getting someone else to measure your body. Whoever is doing the measurement should make sure that the measurement tape is not held too tightly or loosely.
You need to take five measurements, out of which three are most common. The other two are most specific for top and bottom dresses.
1. Bust
To measure your bust, raise your hands and wrap the tape across the fullest part of the bust. Make sure the tape doesn’t slip from the back while taking the measurement.
2. Waist
Waist is the trickiest part while measuring your size. We call it tricky because it defines your petite body type and it changes for normal body and bodies with medical conditions such as pregnancy. To find your waist in normal cases you need to place the measurement tape between the bottom of your ribs and the top of your hips. Make sure it’s right above your belly button. Take measurements of both breathing in and out. For better fittings stay close to breathing out measurements.
For pregnant petites, place the tape between the lower back and upper hip right through under your belly.
3. Hip
To take the perfect hip measurement, stand and place your feet together. Your hip is right below your waist, find the widest point of it. Wrap the tape around it. Make sure it’s neither too tight nor too loose. If there is any confusion don’t shy away from measuring twice.
4. Inseam
Inseam is the length between your crotch and ankle. To measure it, stand straight, and put one end of the measurement tape right where your crotch ends. From the other end measure up to ankles. You can also measure your jeans or pants. Just measure the length between the crotch and hem. While measuring the body make sure you are standing barefoot.
5. Sleeve
If your upper body is petite, you will want to measure your sleeves. A sleeve is the length measured from the centre of your neck to your shoulder and down to your wrist. You can also measure your best-fitting full shirt to get your best sleeve measurement.
How to find your size among petite brands
Once you have the measurement of your waist, hip, and bust, finding your size is easy. All you have to do is compare and choose the size which is closest to your measurements.
The closest measurement means at least two out of three measurements should have the same or the difference should not exceed 2 units of measurement.
This ensures that even when you need alteration, you will not have to alter too much in your dress and its designs.
